Climbing the karate ladder
The martial arts belt system is one of the coolest parts of training. It’s a visual ladder that lets students set clear goals, track their progress, and stay motivated along the way.
What are gradings?
Gradings are special moments when students get recognised for their hard work and commitment in class. It’s the time when you move up through the Karate ranks and earn your next belt — a proud milestone for everyone involved.
Our grading days are full of energy and excitement, especially for our younger students, who often get a big boost of confidence when they step up.
And with family and friends invited to come along and cheer, it’ll be a day of celebration for everyone!
Tournaments — the karate cup finals!
If gradings are milestones, tournaments are the big matches — the karate equivalent of a cup final!
While entering tournaments isn’t mandatory, we highly encourage students to give it a go. We hold tournaments twice a year, and they’re packed with energy and excitement for all ages and grades.
Because we’re all about practical skills, we designed our very own tournament format — PAKT (Practical & Applied Karate Tournaments). It’s a hit not only with Shogun students but also with karatekas from other clubs who love the challenge and camaraderie.
And no matter if you win, lose, or draw — everyone walks away feeling like a winner!
Ready to climb your next rung on the ladder? Whether you’re eyeing your next belt or thinking about stepping into the tournament ring, we’re here to support every punch, kick, and step of the way – just find your nearest class in Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Colchester and join the Shogun Practical Karate family.
